They're Stuck Below 2021 Highs

April 15, 2024

There is a big theme going on right now - and that's the inability for important indexes to get above their 2021 highs.

You're seeing it at the individual stock level, you're seeing it across specific sectors and industry groups, and you're definitely seeing it in the S&P500 and Nasdaq100 Equally-weighted.

These indexes below eliminate the excessive weightings in certain stocks and sectors and equally-weight all of its components.

Look at both of them still stuck below their 2021 highs:

Big Mac Inflation Is Real

April 14, 2024

This just in: It's getting more expensive for people to get fat.

While many investors are more confused than ever looking at "CPI", whatever that is, the real inflation gauge is giving off a serious warning.

Inflation is here.

Look at the price of Big Macs at McDonald's skyrocketing:

Dow hits New 52-week Lows Priced in Real Money

April 13, 2024

The disaster for the Dow Jones Industrial Average continues.

Yesterday the Dow closed at a new 52-week low, priced in "Real" Money.

When you look at the Dow priced in Fiat Currency, it's also acting weak, actually DOWN since the start of February.

Here's what that looks like:

Platinum Is on Deck

April 12, 2024

From the Desk of Ian Culley @IanCulley

Nobody is paying attention to platinum.

It’s easy to overlook while gold shines and silver rips. But during the last commodity supercycle, platinum traded at a premium to the famous shiny yellow rock (and still does regarding retail jewelry).

Platinum was a powerhouse!

Check out gold and platinum futures overlaid going back to the 1970s:

Both peaked within a month of each other in the early 1980s and experienced rip-roaring rallies during the 2000s.

These two markets trend together over longer time frames. If this is an actual bull run for precious metals and an honest-to-god commodity supercycle, platinum will follow gold’s lead

In fact, it's breaking out of a multi-month base right now:

International Hall of Famers (04-12-2024)

April 12, 2024

From the Desk of Steve Strazza @Sstrazza

Our International Hall of Famers list is composed of the 100 largest US-listed international stocks, or ADRs.

We've also sprinkled in some of the largest ADRs from countries that did not make the market cap cut.

These stocks range from some well-known mega-cap multinationals such as Toyota Motor and Royal Dutch Shell to some large-cap global disruptors such as Sea Ltd and Shopify.

It's got all the big names and more–but only those that are based outside the US. You can find all the largest US stocks on our original Hall of Famers list.

The beauty of these scans is really in their simplicity.

We take the largest names each week and then apply technical filters in a way that the strongest stocks with the most momentum rise to the top.

Based on the market environment, we can also flip the scan on its head and filter for weakness.

Let's dive in and take a look at some of the most important stocks from around the world.

Here's this week's list:

Junior Hall of Famers (04-11-2024)

April 11, 2024

From the Desk of Steve Strazza @Sstrazza

We love our bottoms-up scans here at All Star Charts. We tend to get really creative when making new universes as we want to be sure they will deliver us the best opportunities the market has to offer.

However, when it comes to our latest project, it couldn't be any simpler!

With the goal of finding more bullish setups, we have decided to expand one of our favorite scans and broaden our regular coverage of the largest US stocks.

Welcome to The Junior Hall of Famers.

This scan is composed of the next 150 largest stocks by market cap, those that come after the top 150 and are thus covered by the Hall of Famers universe. Many of these names will someday graduate and join our original Hall Of Famers list. The idea here is to catch these big trends as early on as possible.

There is no need to overcomplicate things. Market cap is a quality filter at the end of the day. It only grows if price is rising. That's good enough for us.

The bottom line is it is a bull market. We want as many vehicles and options...

The Bond Crash Continues

April 11, 2024

They keep telling you that interest rates are going down.

But interest rates keep going up.

The US 10-year Yield and US 30-year Yields are hitting the highest levels since Mid-November.

In the near-term rate markets, US 1-year and 2-year yields have been up and to the right all year, also hitting the highest levels since November.

Meanwhile, your boy Joe Biden is literally out there telling people that rates are going down.

He said it again yesterday.

This Biden guy is either lying to you. Or he hasn't even bothered to look.

And regardless of which side of the aisle you sit on, neither one of these answers is acceptable.

Why is the President of the United States lying to you about falling interest rates?

Dollar-Yen Hits a 33-Year High

April 10, 2024

From the Desk of Ian Culley @IanCulley

Interest rates are climbing worldwide. The US dollar is dominating the pack.

And commodities are kicking off the next leg of a bull run that began in 2019.

The primary trends that opened the decade are showing no signs of reversing. As long as they remain intact, we must lean into them.

I can’t think of a stronger trend to ride than the dollar-yen…

The USD/JPY pair is posting its highest level since June 1990:

Now that’s a big base breakout.

Fresh 33-year highs ignite the imagination. But, from a tactical perspective, I’m more concerned with the completion of a 17-month cup-and-handle.

Here’s a closer look:

I outlined our breakout and target levels in ...

2 to 100 Club (04-10-2024)

April 10, 2024

From the Desk of Steve Strazza @Sstrazza

Welcome to The 2 to 100 Club.

As most of you know, we use various bottom-up tools and scans to complement our top-down approach.

It's really been working for us!

One way we're doing this is by identifying the strongest growth stocks as they climb the market-cap ladder from small- to mid- to large- and, ultimately, to mega-cap status (over $200B).

Once they graduate from small-cap to mid-cap status (over $2B), they come on our radar. Likewise, when they surpass the roughly $30B mark, they roll off our list.

But the scan doesn't just end there.

We only want to look at the strongest growth industries in the market, as that is typically where these potential 50-baggers come from.

Some of the best performers in recent decades – stocks like Priceline, Amazon, Netflix, Salesforce, and myriad others – would have been on this list at some point during their journey to becoming the market...

Trend Following: Energy Edition

April 9, 2024

Earlier today we discussed the NYSE Oil Index breaking out to new all-time highs.

I really like this Index because, since it's NYSE-based, it includes energy stocks from all over the world.

As long as it trades on the NYSE, who cares if it's TOTAL in France, or Petrabras in Brazil?

These are the most important Oil stocks in the world and the index is hitting new all-time highs.

Here are all the stocks in the index relative to a variety of moving averages (getting longer-term moving from left to right on this chart below):
